Research

We have a team of excellence researchers with PhD degree who, in addition to our cutting-edge technological capacities, allows us to create applied scientific knowledge in order to solve problems in the agribusiness.
CREAS supports entrepreneurship and enhanced competitiveness of the regional industry through developing and managing R&D and technology transfer projects.

Along with its activities and its strategic alignment with regional and country-wide public policies, it seeks to encourage public-private investment on R&D&i and programs aimed to increase healthy food consumption.

CREAS’ work goal is to provide technological solutions for the productive sector — which, based on excellence science and technology development, allow regional industry to increase productivity and competitiveness, responding in a dynamic, flexible, and convenient fashion within its scope of action. The aforementioned is performed around four current CREAS’ lines of work:

Line 1

To develop new and/or improved products, processes, and technology for competitive growth of food agribusiness through applied innovation mechanisms.

Line 2

Developing technologies and/or protocols aimed to strengthen packed food shelf life.

 

Line 3

Developing sustainable technology applied to obtain high added value compounds and products, from non-timber forestry products and from discards and waste from the food agribusiness.

Line 4

As a result of the aforementioned research lines, it is worth noting the Technology Transfer of knowledge generated to the productive sector (Management and Service Line).

National Interaction

CREAS is engaged with the different R&D&i institutions across the country. Some framework agreements for collaboration with national entities supporting and encouraging the goal of its work are mentioned below:

It has also developed several applied R&D projects together with over 100 companies from the productive sector, and interaction projects through commercial prospecting missions.


International Interaction

In the international arena, CREAS, from the very beginning, has stated the goal of defining and developing an international strategic collaboration plan which allows it to be on the edge of knowledge, having access, at the same time, to infrastructure and technological capabilities in a quick and effective way. It is for this reason that in many projects executed with CREAS we have maintained collaboration networks with foreign technological entities with a vast career in R&D on Food Science and Engineering, such as:

In 2017, CREAS turned 10 years, on the base of two big projects, 5-years each: The Initiation project, through which we achieved creating a Regional Center with legal status, clear goals and defined governance, and a Continuity project. With this project, CREAS is established as an institution committed to research, innovation, and technology transfer on healthier food. We are proud to say the result of this project was assessed as optimum by the external peer commission appointed by CONICYT.
